Two new
members to the Council of Masters have been confirmed and are now part of the
WCF family.
Let's take a
quick look at the new members.
Mestra
Brisa.
Carolina
Gusmao Magalhaes, age 43, started Capoeira in Nordeste de Amaralina, Salvador,
Bahia with Mestre Bozo Preto in 1992. After traversing through a variety of
other organisations she settled in the Associaçao Cultural GUETO in 1999 under
the guidance of Mestre Jean Pangolin.
She received
her formation as a Master of Capoeira in 2009. She is currently studying a
doctorate at the UFBA School of Nutrition and holds a Masters in Social
Management.
Mestre Yoji
Senna (da Bahia)
Yoji
Macieira Valverde Senna, age 57, started Capoeira at the age of 12 while
studying in the Salvador Military College and became Bahia state youth champion
at the age of 14.
Mestre Yoji Senna is the son of Mestre Carlos Senna, who was a student of Mestre
Bimba. He left Bahia in
his early twenties to Argentina where he founded and directed the Department of
Afro-American Culture at the University of Buenos Aires in 1987-1991 and it was
in 1992 that he made the move into the USA and founded the Afro-Brazilian
Capooeira Association.
We are very
lucky to have another two great masters to contribute to the growth of the WCF
who have dedicated their lives to Capoeira and contributed an enormous amount
of experience, energy and knowledge to the artform.
