Eu Canto Capoeira 2021 - Cancelled

Eu Canto Capoeira 2021 - Cancelled

Over the past 16 months since this pandemic tool hold of the world and turned our lives upside-down, the WCF has been developing innovative new concepts to motivate players and to let Capoeiristas from all over the world continue to interact and compete.

And with innovation comes experimentation.

And with experimentation comes conclusions.

And those conclusions turn impressive and positive results...

And sometimes they don't.

Eu Canto Capoeira 2021 is unfortunately the first innovative experiment of the WCF that has returned unsatisfactory results.

As a conclusion the 5th online event of the WCF, Eu Canto Capoeira 2021 is hereby cancelled.

The concept created by members of the Council of Masters is in all regards an extremely noble and educational idea. An all-inclusive program for adults as well as youth, the event was to give the chance for Capoeiristas around the world to get to know some of our art-forms older and fundamentally important Masters who have not yet had the international exposure and fame as some other Masters have gained.

By selecting 3 Masters to honour for the event, participants could select a song composed by one of the Masters and record their own rendition to show their appreciation of the marvellous musics that those Masters had composed for the greater Capoeira community.

The second, and more educational, category was to let people research and study these honoured Masters and compose their own music in dedication to that Master.

It was not lost on all members of the WCF Management Board, Council of Masters & Referee Commission that this event would be extremely challenging.

But Challenge is good.

Without challenge, we don't grow.

When it comes to imitating songs recorded by our favourite composers many players from around the world do an amazing job grasping the energy and power of the songs even though they are not native Portuguese speakers.

However, when it comes to composing new song and writing lyrics, this can be an enormous challenge for the majority of WCF competitors for the very same reason, since all songs must be sung in Portuguese.

With the pandemic still raging on around the world, where places that were considered dangerous have become safe and those considered safe have recently turned bad, the WCF will continue to develop online competitions for competitors around the world to gather, share and play.

So look out for the next online event from WCF and continue to train and prepare strongly and safely.
